After the Kakhovka power plant dam in southern Ukraine was destroyed on June 6, landmines and other munitions that had not been detonated were scattered over large areas. The mines pose a major explosion risk.
Sweden has decided to send 250 minesweepers that can be used to clear mines that have been washed away or mixed with rubble.
MSB has also sent demining material to Ukraine in 2022.
“We have now decided to further strengthen this part of our response operations by donating 250 minesweepers to the value of SEK 15 million,” says Magdalena Tham Lindell, unit manager for humanitarian response operations at MSB in a press release.
Through MSB, Sweden has made a total of over 200 efforts in support of Ukraine since the war started.
Among other things, it has been about emergency accommodation for people who lost their homes and medical evacuations of the injured and sick for treatment in Sweden.
