Sentences on drug offenses and assault have caused Frida Virenius, 31, to cancel dates.

Now she is worried that the government’s proposal to limit search services such as MrKoll and Lexbase will become a reality.

    – I won’t feel safe, says Frida Virenius.

Before a potential date, Västerås resident Frida Virenius routinely checks who it is she is going to meet, which SVT previously told. It’s a way to protect yourself from dangerous men, she says.

    – If they do not appear on Lexbase, I know that they have not been convicted in any case, says Frida Virenius.

Over the years, she has found men she intended to meet who had been convicted of drug offenses and bar brawls.

    – For me, it shows that they may have problems with alcohol and aggression. But the worst was when I found one who was convicted of minor abuse of his child. Then I canceled immediately, says Frida Virenius.

    Strengthen personal integrity

But if the government gets its way, Frida Virenius’ opportunities to check up on men will decrease. The idea is to strengthen the protection of personal integrity by changing the constitutional protection for search services that make personal data public, such as addresses, marital status, telephone numbers and judgments. During Wednesday, an investigator presents his proposals.

    – I understand what it is based on and why they want to limit it. But what I am critical of is that it is the only help I can get when I want to check who it is I am actually going to meet, says Frida Virenius.

But don’t you yourself find it unpleasant if people check you out?

    – Yes, but it is possible to remove your data from these sites yourself.

Frida Virenius is usually open about the fact that she checks up on men and she has also written about it on social media.

    – Many say that it is exaggerated. That you should give people a chance and go by gut feeling and that it can ruin the tingle in the stomach. But this is a way to protect yourself from men who can be dangerous. I have children and I don’t want to risk them being exposed, says Frida Virenius.

    – And to the men I’m going to meet, I want to convey that I’m a girl who knows, that they can’t fool me. They can think I’m crazy if they want.

    How’s the dating going then?

    – It goes up and down. I keep swiping and checking up on the men as long as I can.

The factual investigation is presented today

An investigator has been commissioned by the government since autumn 2023 to look into whether the constitutional protection for some of the search services that publish personal data should be changed.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) has justified it by saying that criminal gangs use the services to map people when they plan crimes.

Today, the search services and databases are normally covered by the protection for freedom of expression found in the constitution. The investigator has checked whether there is a need to restrict constitutional protection and is submitting his report today.

After the investigator submits the report, it is sent on for referral to the relevant authorities, who provide their views. Only after that does the government write its bill.
