MPS Milan prosecutor closes investigation on impaired loans former top

(Finance) – The Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office has closed the investigation for false corporate communications, false prospectus and manipulation in the case of the correct accounting of impaired loans (NPL) of Monte dei Paschi di Siena Bank against some former executives. The former presidents Alessandro Profumo and Massimo Tononi, the former CEO Fabrizio Viola and the former manager in charge of preparing the accounting documents Arturo Betunio are under investigation.

Excerpted in view of a request for dismissal, the positions of six suspects. In the past the GIP Guido Salvini had rejected an archiving request, by ordering an appraisal, and the new PMs extended the investigations and also arranged for technical advice. The investigations, carried out by the special currency police unit of the Guardia di Finanza, were conducted by PMs Roberto Fontana and Giovanna Cavalleri.
