(Finance) – The former top management from Monte dei Paschi di Siena Bankaccused of obstacle to the supervision of the Bank of Italy in the restructuring of the Alexandria derivative, they were acquitted on appeal in Florence because “the fact does not exist”. The former president Giuseppe Mussari, the former general manager Antonio Vigni and the former head of the finance area Gianluca Baldassarri were then acquitted with full formula, in the second-degree trial bis.

In the appeal in 2017 the defendants had been acquitted because “the fact does not constitute a crime”, but in 2019 the Supreme Court had ordered another appeal to define the acquittal formula. The defendants had appealed to be acquitted with full formula, which the judges decided today. At first instance they had been sentenced by the Court of Siena to three years and six months of imprisonment and five of interdiction.

This is the second verdict of acquittal in a few months. On 6 May, this time in Milan, the three former top managers of the Sienese bank were acquitted in the main trial on derivatives. Also in that case the appeal overturned the verdict of the Court.
