MP: The Ministry of the Environment will return in 2026

Language leaders Märta Stenevi and Per Bolund devoted their entire summer speech to the climate crisis.

From the stage at Södermalm in Stockholm, they spoke of a summer which, according to them, “broke all records”.

— Forests have burned. Cities have been flooded. And societies have been shattered in increasingly extreme storms worldwide. You no longer have to “trust science” to understand what is happening, says Märta Stenevi.

The language tubes also tried to convey a feeling of anger and resentment that Ulf Kristersson and the government, according to the MP, are destroying the chance that climate change means.

“Kristerson doesn’t understand”

— Ulf Kristersson does not understand the climate crisis. And those who do not understand the climate crisis will never be able to lead society through it, says Per Bolund.

The government’s policy is also a threat to investment, jobs and the economy, according to the spokespeople.

“Emissions are increasing for the first time in two decades as a result of political decisions,” says Stenevi.

But from 2021 to 2022, after a period when MP was in government, Sweden’s climate emissions increased, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Shall re-establish the ministry

The government does not want to mention the connection between extreme weather and the climate crisis, according to the spokespeople. And climate adaptation is only mentioned in passing, but no money is pushed, they say.

Språkrøren also raises the issue of the closure of the Ministry of the Environment, whose issues at the turn of the year came under the Minister of Energy and Business in the new Ministry of Climate and Business.

The sign for the ministry has waltzed around in various places, including on stage with Håkan Hellström.

— Dear Ministry of the Environment sign. No later than 2026, you must come home and be put up on the wall again, says Stenevi.
