Since “A good start” began in 2014, Gävle municipality has annually given SEK 2.5 million to Brynäs IF. So far, it is a total of SEK 20 million. Despite the fact that it is tax money, SVT’s review shows that the municipality does not require any financial reporting for what the project costs.
Jörgen Edsvik (S), who is chairman of the social sustainability committee, explained the missing report by saying that they are only interested in what effect they have for the money, not what it costs.
“Thoughtful about how it can cost so much”
The chair of the Culture and Leisure Committee, Helene Börjesson (MP), now wants the municipality to leave the collaboration when the agreement expires in 2023.
– There is nothing wrong with the activities themselves, but we have not seen what the different activities cost, says Helene Börjesson (MP).
The project includes holding so-called “Kompissnack” in schools and “Playdays” where associations show their activities.
– I get thoughtful about how these activities can cost so much money. Especially considering that they also receive grants from private companies, says Helene Börjesson.
Want to bet wide
Instead of the collaboration with “A good start”, Helene Börjesson (MP) wants to invest in broadening the support to more associations.
– We want a greater collaboration where we together with RF-SISU Gävleborg and various associations can work together to get more than we get in the individual project “A good start”, says Helene Börjesson (MP).
“It’s to hell”
Member of Parliament Lars Beckman (M) from Gävle is critical of the management of the financial accounts for the project and thinks that the municipality should be able to conduct social sustainability work under its own auspices.
– It is hell that the municipality has not required a financial report, says Lars Beckman (M).
