On Thursday, a three-day period of mourning was declared in Montenegro due to the mass shooting that took place on New Year’s Day. A total of 12 people, including 2 children, were killed in the shooting.

The suspected shooter, a 45-year-old man, shot himself after police chased him for hours and finally surrounded him.

The shooting started in a restaurant fight in the village of Bajice near the city of Cetinje in the south of the country. After opening fire in the restaurant, the man shot people, including his own family members, in several other places before committing suicide.

In addition to the dead, four people were seriously wounded in the shooting. However, according to the police, there was no longer any danger to their lives on Thursday.

Prime Minister of Montenegro Milojko Spajic called the mass shooting a “horrific tragedy.” According to the Prime Minister, due to the incident, among other things, the country’s gun laws should be reviewed again.
