Two rock climbers have died after falling 400 meters from the Matterhorn peak on the border between Switzerland and Italy, Swiss and Italian media report.
The mountaineers, who were Swiss, were found at an altitude of 3,100 meters. Swiss authorities were alerted on Monday when the two did not return after an excursion.
The Matterhorn (Cervino in Italian) is a mountain peak of 4,478 meters on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The mountain’s south wall is in Italy, while the north, east and west walls are in Switzerland.
