Utrecht – Gerrit van Kouwen passed away at the age of 60 after a short illness. The racing driver was not only a celebrity in his hometown of De Meern, but also far beyond. In 1984 he achieved world fame by breaking British hegemony at the Formula Ford Festival on the Brands Hatch circuit. The race was known at the time as the springboard to Formula 1.
