Motorcyclist killed in Norwich Township collision

Oxford provincial police officers are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision just outside of Woodstock.

Thursday morning at approximately 8:15 am, Oxford OPP officers, local firefighters and Oxford County paramedics responded to a two-vehicle crash between a pickup truck and motorcycle at the intersection of Highway 59 and Substation Road in Norwich Township.

The motorcyclist, a 33-year-old from Port Rowan, was airlifted to hospital at Ornge air ambulance, where they were pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

Oxford OPP officers, along with members of the technical collision investigators and traffic incident management enforcement team, were still on scene Thursday afternoon while roads in the area, including Highway 59 at Gunn’s Hill Road and Beaconsfield Road, were closed for the investigation. Motorists were urged to obey the road-closure signs.

401 lanes reopen after truck fire near Sweaburg

A long stretch of Highway 401 west of Woodstock reopened Thursday following a dramatic late-night fire hours earlier.

Traffic in the highway’s east lanes was heavily backed up Wednesday night after a tractor-trailer was engulfed by blame, with the OPP closing a stretch of more than eight kilometers between Foldens Line and Mill Street near Sweaburg as emergency crews dealt with the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Three injured when tanker truck, vehicle collide: Police

Three people were injured when a tanker truck and vehicle collided east of London on Tuesday.

The crash occurred at 12:10 pm at Elgin and Gore roads just north of Dorchester, Middlesex OPP said.

One person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and two with serious injuries, police said.

OPP kept the intersection closed until Wednesday morning to assess damage to the roadway from the crash.
