Motorcycles March registrations down but the first quarter remains positive

(Finance) – Le two-wheeler registrations in March decreased by 5.21% but the first quarter balance remains positive with +3%.
“The terrible weather conditions, the comparison with a particularly positive 2023 and the presence of fewer working days in the calendar help us to better understand the monthly trend of the market. Despite the fluctuating start to the year, 2024 today marks a +3% on last year and still confirms the centrality and protagonism of two wheels as a mobility solution and a factor of leisure and passion” declared the president of Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycle Motorcycle Accessories). Registrations for the third month of the year stood at 35,605 units with a decrease of 5.21%. Motorcycles left 4.09 percentage points on the ground and registered 17,431 vehicles, scooters recorded a drop of 6.36% 16,704 units and mopeds lost 5.04% with 1,470 units sold.

Despite the March result, as mentioned, the market is still holding up in the cumulative first quarter, marking a growth of 3.08%, which corresponds to 85,113 new vehicles put on the road. At the top of the standings are scooter with a performance of 3.64% and 41,329 units, followed by motorcycles which grew by 2.93% and registered 40,067 vehicles; mopeds close, declining by 1.22% for a totaland 3,717 registered vehicles.

The decline in the market for electric vehicles was more limited, closing the month of March with a decline of 3.01%, equal to 1,065 vehicles sold. The volumes are mainly brought by mopeds which, also thanks to an order, grew by 32.02% and put 503 units on the market while scooters lost 24.16 percentage points and registered 518 vehicles. The motorbikes with 44 units sold in March they mark a growth of 29.41%. The annual cumulative figure is still in negative territory, with a drop of 24.36% for a total of 2,124 units sold.
