A major rescue effort was launched on Thursday just after 4pm after a mother jumped after her seven-year-old child who had fallen overboard from the Poland ferry between Gdynia and Karlskrona.
They were both found at 5:30 p.m. and flown by helicopter to hospital in Karlskrona. Neither the mother nor the child could be contacted when they were found.
Polish police confirmed to Polish media on Friday morning that both people had died. Next of kin must have been notified.
