With his cult role as Frank Martin in The Transporter, Jason Statham achieved his final breakthrough as an action star in the early 2000s. The film led to two sequels with the star, but very few Statham fans would know that he played the character very briefly in another film. You can currently stream the thriller masterpiece with your Netflix subscription if you hurry.
This is what happens in the short Jason Statham scene in the action masterpiece
The film is Michael Mann’s Collateral. In the story of the action hit, Tom Cruise plays the contract killer Vincent, who forces Jamie Foxx in the role of taxi driver Max to escort him over the course of a night to various targets who need to be eliminated.
When you start Collateral, you’ll see Jason Statham’s cameo right at the beginning after less than a minute. The action star appears in the crowd at Los Angeles airport, where Cruise’s killer has just arrived.
Both men seem to accidentally bump into each other, but the whole thing is just a disguised move so that Statham’s character Vincent can inconspicuously hand over a briefcase. This is where the hitman’s targets are located. After a maximum of 30 seconds, the short Statham appearance is over again.
Jason Statham’s collateral role is definitely said to be his Transporter character
According to Screen Rant, Collateral screenwriter Stuart Beattie spoke as a podcast guest about how Statham was clearly playing Frank Martin in the brief appearance. This results in a secret universe consisting of the Transporter films and Mann’s Collateral:
Absolutely Frank Martin from Transporter. I asked Jason about it… Yes, absolutely. Yes, that is canon. Same world… the studio will never admit it, but in my head he absolutely is.
If you want to check the Statham scene in Collateral again for yourself, you shouldn’t take too long. Michael Mann’s action thriller masterpiece is only available as a Netflix subscription until September 30, 2023 available.
