The survey also shows that Finns ‘confidence in media coverage and the authorities’ communication of the Russian offensive war is by far the highest level internationally.
If Finland were to go to war, 62 per cent of Finns would be ready to fight for their country.
This is evidenced by a recent survey by the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN), an international network of market research and opinion polling companies. In Finland, the network includes Economic Research.
12 percent of Finns who responded to the survey would not be ready to fight for their country.
The will of Finns to defend their country is the fourth highest level among the citizens of the countries participating in the survey. Colombians and Palestinians are on an equal footing with the Finns.
Peru, Turkey and Pakistan are also ahead, with as many as 96 per cent of respondents saying they are ready to fight for their country. In addition, as many as 90 percent of Pakistanis say they like their country and say it is the best place to live. In this statistic, Pakistan also beats Finland, which, according to the survey, is considered by 87 percent of Finns.
The lowest will to defend the country seems to be in the Netherlands, where only 16% of respondents say they want to defend their country in a war situation. The figures are also low in Japan (19%), Germany (22%) and Italy (22%).
The survey, which was largely conducted as an online survey, involved more than 19,000 respondents from 24 countries around the world. In Finland, 500 respondents participated. For Finland, the margin of error is 3.5–4 percentage points.
The survey was conducted from April 1 to May 5 this year.
Finns’ confidence in war news is strong
According to the survey, Finns have very strong confidence in the information reported by the media about the Russian invasion war in Ukraine.
As many as 90 per cent say they are confident in the quality of war-related information in the Finnish media. The reading is by far the highest in the study.
The second most trusted media information is in Canada, where 64 percent of respondents consider the information to be reliable. In Italy, for example, only 36% of respondents have this opinion.
Finland is also in a state of loneliness when asked about the reliability of the information provided by the authorities in connection with the war of aggression in Russia.
In Finland, 92 per cent of respondents trust the authorities in this matter. In most of the countries surveyed, not even half of the respondents agree.
Serbs say China is more responsible for the war than Russia
The investigation also asked which party or parties the defendants felt were responsible for the war in Ukraine. It was possible to answer more than one of the options.
Almost all Finns who participated in the survey (98%) saw Russia as responsible for the war. At European level, 75% of respondents think so.
On the other hand, in the Middle East and North Africa, for example, the United States (26%) is seen as responsible for the war almost as much as Russia (30%).
There are also significant differences in results within Europe. In Serbia, for example, only 19 percent feel that Russia is responsible for the war in Ukraine. In contrast, Serbs ’accusing finger points more to China, which is held accountable for the war by as many as 46 percent of respondents.
The study also asked how safe the people of each country see their future. 59 per cent of Finns feel that their future is safe. 41 per cent of Finnish respondents think about the future insecurely.
The future is seen very differently in Lebanon (78%), Italy (68%) and France (67%), where the majority of respondents say they feel more insecure than safe.
