The little leaf warbler is Sweden’s most common bird, but has declined sharply in the last three years.
Last year, 13,000 leaf warblers were ringed – a halving compared to 2020, according to a press release from the National Museum of Natural History, which calls the trend “disturbing”.
It is not clear why the leaf warbler appears to be declining. As it is a migratory bird, the decline may be due to factors both in Sweden and in other countries.
