Almost half of all ad fraud in Sweden is committed via Facebook according to new statistics from the police, report Swedish daily newspaper.
– Just under half of the reports concern Facebook, both on Marketplace and in various groups. It is a common place for fraud, says Lotta Mauritzson, crime prevention officer at the Police’s national fraud centre, to the newspaper.
Electronics most commonly
A total of 25,391 ad frauds were reported in 2022. Compared to 2021, this is a slight decrease, but then the number had increased by 50 percent from 2020. Most frauds concern deals with electronic gadgets.
Facebook’s owner Meta responds in a written comment to SvD that they work continuously to protect users against fraud and that it is important to be careful with external links and to never give out card or bank details to strangers.
