Moscow Times Russian General Sergei Surovik arrested

Russian general Even Sergei Surovik has been arrested, says an independent Russian Moscow Times -magazine. It bases its information on two sources close to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Officially, the ministry has not commented on the information.

From October of last year to January of this year, Surovikin served as the commander of the Russian forces in Ukraine.

American New York Times -lehti said, referring to official sources, that Surovik would have known in advance the director of the mercenary company Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin plans for rebellion.

The officials who spoke to the newspaper said that they got their information from the situation reports of the US intelligence.

Over the weekend, Surovikin publicly called on Prigozhin to stop his efforts to overthrow Russia’s military leadership.
