Moscow police raided bars “to combat LGBT propaganda” | News in brief

In Russia, the Moscow police raided bars early on Saturday “to combat LGBT propaganda”, according to the Russian news agency Tass.

According to Tass, Russian security forces raided at least three bars and nightclubs.

Videos circulating on social media show that in the Arma nightclub, customers were made to sit on the dance floor and riot police walked among them and shouted orders.

Another video shows how people who raised their hands above their heads were escorted out of the Mono nightclub, which is popular with sexual minorities.

The raids took place a year after Russia’s Supreme Court declared the “international LGBT movement” illegal.
