(Finance) – Due to its “partisan” position, Italy cannot fulfill the function of guarantor of the peace process in Ukraine. This – according to what the Tass agency reports – is the position expressed by spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“Obviously,” he said Zakharov – given the partisan position taken by Italy, we cannot see it as an honest broker or a possible guarantor of the peace process”.
“It’s strange,” she reiterated spokesman in a comment published on the website of the Foreign Ministry and taken up by the RIA Novosti agency – to hear proposals for mediation from countries which, since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, have taken an unequivocal and very aggressive position against Russia, and they not only supported the bloody regime in Kiev, but also provide it with significant military and military-technical assistance, deliberately filling Ukraine with the most modern weapons”. The reference is to the words of the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who during the press conference at the end of the year had made it known that he had told al Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Italy is ready to “be guarantor of a peace process”.
Arms supplies are “irresponsible actions” which – he continues Zakharov – “not only do they multiply the number of victims, including among the civilian population of Donbass, and delay the end of the conflict, but they risk dragging the NATO countries into a direct military confrontation with Russia.
