Morocco knocked out Spain in the World Cup after a shootout thriller and are through to the nation’s first quarter-final.
In the penalty shootout at the Education City stadium, goalkeeper Bono and Achraf Hakimi, who was born in Madrid, became Morocco’s round of 16 saviors. Bono saved two penalties and then on the decisive one, right-back Hakimi chipped in the ball. A so-called Panenka penalty.
– The boys played a fantastic match, they stuck to the tactics. They never gave up and at the penalties we knew we had one of the world’s best goalkeepers, says national team captain Walid Regragui.
