The film will not be shown in commercial or cultural contexts, the Moroccan film authority CCM announces.
“The Lady of Heaven” has been directed by Eli King and draws parallels between the terrorist group IS and historical figures in Sunni Islam. The film is a “blatant falsification of established facts about the history of Islam”, writes CCM in a statement.
The film premiered in the UK on June 3, but after protests outside the cinemas, the cinema chain Cineworld stopped showing.
Several other Muslim countries have condemned the film as blasphemous. This includes Egypt, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq.
