The Chatham-Kent Singers are looking for a few more voices.
Formerly known as the Kent Glee Club, the group was started in the 1950s and then revived in 1975 by Jean and Charlton Carscallen of Wallaceburg.
The group has practiced at various venues over the decades and will be meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Chatham on Sept. 6 from 7 pm to 9 pm to begin practicing for the upcoming festive concert season.
No auditions are required, but there is a nominal fee of $20 to join.
“Choir members are like gold,” says Singers president Bob Mann. “They are in short supply and much valued. We really want to balance our sound and we particularly need bass and tenor voices to round things out.”
The Chatham-Kent Singers sing in four-part harmony in a variety of styles. They sing contemporary, traditional, Broadway, country and sacred music led by director Nancy Tapley and accompanied by Joy Anderson on the piano.
The Singers, Mann notes, perform to support worthwhile charities and community organizations all around Chatham-Kent such as animal rescue societies, the Food Grain Bank, Wallaceburg Museum, Bothwell Boomtown Players as well as at volunteer appreciation nights. They have sung many times at nursing and retirement homes to the great enjoyment of the residents and staff.
“Please come and give us a try,” says Mann. “We would love to have you.”
