Like any good self -respecting tech giant, Meta also embarked on the AI race with Meta Ai, the chatbot of the company doped with artificial intelligence. A real personal assistant, this conversational robot allows you to ask questions at any time on all kinds of subjects, without having to go from one application to another.
Unveiled in 2023 in the United States and deployed on Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, Messenger, but also on the Quest helmets, in a handful of countries in stride, Meta Ai will finally make his arrival in Europe, and therefore in France, this week. A delay in launch that the company justifies by a “complex European regulatory system”, in particular in terms of data collection to cause artificial intelligence, which did not respect the GDPR (see our article).
Meta AI: Limited functions compared to the American version
“It took us more time than expected to deploy our AI technology in Europe, because we continue to sail in a complex European regulatory system but we are happy to finally have come there”said the company in a press release. The deployment of Meta Ai covers 41 European countries, including the entire European Union, as well as 21 overseas territories. It supports no less than six languages and already claims 700 million active users per month.
Meta Ai is now completely free and usable on all Meta applications. A new icon appearing a blue circle should soon be displayed on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Whatsapp to allow you to dialogue with the artificial intelligence of the company. This works like Gemini and Chatgpt: it is enough to submit a request to him in a natural language, through a prompt, so that Meta I have run. Thus, on WhatsApp, Meta Ai can deliver you as well a cooking recipe and advise you on a tailor -made hiking route. On Messenger, a friend offers a lunch but does not know at what address? You just need to mention the chatbot (@Metaai) to come to your rescue.
The Chabot, which will first arrive in your group discussions on WhatsApp, will also be available in group conversations on Messenger and Instagram. But unlike the American version, the European version of the AI has more limited functions. For example, she cannot generate images via the Meta Imagine tool, a very popular function in the United States. Likewise, it does not yet have memory, which means that it cannot personalize its answers according to previous interactions with the user.
These limitations are mainly due to European regulatory requirements, which impose strict rules on the use of personal data. To comply with these constraints, Meta AI only works in text mode and is not based on user data for training. Subsequently, new functions should gradually complete its arsenal to align the European version with that available in the United States, while respecting local regulations.
