More than 8000 percent more expensive electricity today in southern Sweden than in Norrbotten

The record-breaking differences are due to the fact that the wind turbines in northern Sweden are running at full production and at the same time there is no wind in Germany in particular.

The biggest difference is due to the limited transmission capacity between northern and southern Sweden, which means that electricity prices in southern Sweden are primarily approaching German prices.

Limited transferability

– We have a limited transmission capacity within Sweden, cheap power from the north does not have the opportunity to be transported to southern Sweden and then it becomes significantly more expensive in southern Sweden, says Marcus Ström, Svenska Kraftnät.

If the transmission capacity increases in Sweden, it may mean that northern Sweden may also be affected by the continental prices.

Hear Marcus Ström tell about how it can affect the price in Norrbotten.
