More than 30,000 ancient coins

A diver found over 30,000 ancient bronze coins from the 4th century off the coast of Arzachena, off Sardinia in Italy. The diver alerted the authorities in the country after seeing something “metallic” below the surface.

“All the coins were in an excellent and unusual state of preservation,” Italy’s Ministry of Culture announced, according to TT.

The total number of coins is estimated, due to weight, to be between 30,000 to 50,000.

The find may indicate that there is wreckage from a ship nearby, according to the authorities.

The find is estimated to be significantly larger than that found in 2013 in Britain, when 22,888 similar coins were discovered near the site of a Roman fort in the south-west county of Devon.
