The death toll has risen step by step since Friday last week, when massive amounts of earth fell from a height onto a campsite a few miles outside the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. Around 90 people are estimated to have been there when the landslide occurred and around 60 who had escaped unharmed were already located at an early stage.
Several of the dead were children. On Tuesday, a girl was found five meters below the surface of the earth, wearing pyjamas.
The next day, a man and his dog were dug out of the mud, where they had been buried in an embrace.
Malaysia is currently in monsoon season, which is believed to have caused the landslide. The campsite did not have a permit for its operations at the site in question.
