Over 2,600 election-related crimes have been reported between April 1 and September 4, SVT reports.
These are crimes that are believed to be connected to the election campaign or to have been committed with the aim of influencing the election results or the political opinion of individuals. Of the reported crimes, nearly 400 are in a category that includes molestation and illegal threats.
– It is one of the most serious crimes because it is a direct attack on a person who exercises his basic freedoms and rights. That’s why we have a special police operation just to ensure and secure the election, says police commander Jonas Hysing to SVT.
