Last year was a record year – never before has Sweden had so many students with study grants, according to CSN. Of these, almost 70,000 people studied at a polytechnic, an increase of 13 percent compared with the previous year.
“During the pandemic, more educational places were created within the polytechnic,” says Carl-Johan Stolt, analyst at CSN, in a press release.
The vast majority with a polytechnic degree get a job within a year and the economy during the pandemic is assumed to have contributed to the increased interest.
Since the pandemic, the number of polytechnic students with study grants has risen by almost 45 percent.
“The abolition of the so-called tax-free amount may also have played a role, as the abolition made it easier for people with higher incomes to study and receive study grants,” explains Carl-Johan Stolt.
The most popular educations are in technology and manufacturing, while science educations have increased the most – by almost 80 percent since 2019. The number of students in health and medical care has increased by 47 percent since before the pandemic.
