If France is renowned worldwide for its gastronomy, it is in this region that we find the highest concentration of starred restaurants.

The Michelin guide awarded its new stars on Monday, March 31, on Monday, March 31. The 2025 edition of the famous gastronomic guide now has 654 starred restaurants in France (Monaco included), including 68 new tables crowned this year, including 2 three -star, 9 two -star restaurants and 57 a star restaurants. But what is the region of France which now have the largest number of starred restaurants?

If the 654 starry tables in France bring 31 three stars, 81 two stars and 542 a star, how are they distributed throughout the territory? Historically, a city concentrates the largest number of starred restaurants throughout France, because it has always attracted the elites, intellectuals and wealthy tourists, which favored the emergence of high -end tables to satisfy this demanding clientele and stimulated by culinary creativity.

Finally, it is a city that has always been the cradle of large culinary institutions, renowned cooking schools and talented chefs. This city of France is one of the most visited in the world also for its considerable influence on the gastronomic scene. Have you guessed? Paris of course!

With the capital within it, the Île-de-France region is therefore the big winner. It alone brings together 139 restaurants starred by the Michelin guide, including 112 to a star, 17 to 2 stars and 10 to 3 stars. The city of Paris, with its more than 2 million inhabitants, alone brings together 123 starred establishments. This is not so surprising either, a cartographic study carried out by Ouest-France revealed a correlation between the distribution of starred restaurants in France and population density.

On the second step of the podium in the most starred regions in France, we find, not so far from it, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, with 104 star restaurants in total, including 79 of a star, 19 of 2 stars and 6 of 3 stars. The cities that count most in this region are Lyon, nicknamed the “World Capital of Gastronomy” since 1935 with 11 restaurants, a star, 3 2 -star restaurants and Courchevel with a 3 -star table and 4 with 2 stars.

On the third step arrives the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region which counts a total of 80 star tables, including 67 restaurants with a star, 6 two-star addresses and 7 three-star restaurants. Because if you want to go to the neighborhood that concentrates the most starry from the whole country, go to the 8th arrondissement of Paris, with 20 restaurants of a star including a new award -winning, 6 2 -star restaurants and 5 of 3 stars!
