Norwegian police have been ordered to increase their presence in “relevant and threatened areas and objects” due to the car attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, on Friday.

The measure is intended as a preventive measure, writes Norwegian police chief Bjørn Eirik Vandvik in an email to the news agency NTB.

Among other things, the police had a patrol stationed at a Christmas market in Bergen.

Similar measures are being introduced in Austria, where the police have an increased presence at Christmas markets in particular.
