The Left Party proposes in its shadow budget that housing allowance be increased and that more people should be able to apply for it.
– It is a contribution that needs to be reformed, says the party’s spokesperson Isabell Mixter.
The Left Party proposes SEK 2.4 billion to increase the housing allowance in its alternative to the government’s budget for 2024.
– The housing allowance is accurate in targeting people who have low incomes and need help to get through the crisis, says Isabell Mixter, who is V’s spokesperson for economic family policy.
There were twice as many people in 1997 who received the grant compared to today, according to figures from Försäkringskassan. The left party sees the investment as a way to “fix it”.
Among other things, the party wants to raise the limit for how much you can earn and how expensive the rent must be to be entitled to housing allowance.
– It is a contribution that needs to be reformed. As it has not been raised in line with wages and the rent development, there are constantly fewer people who get to take part in it, says Isabell Mixter.
The party also wants the contribution to be higher. For a household with two children, it is proposed that the maximum amount be raised from SEK 4,200 to SEK 6,600.
V also believes that more adults should be able to apply for support to pay the rent. Today, families with children, young people under the age of 29, people with sickness or activity allowance and pensioners are covered.
– We make completely different priorities than the government, which invests in increased root and root deductions. We give priority to households that have a weak economy.
