Despite darkness and worse road conditions during autumn, winter and spring, there are more fatal traffic accidents during the summer, reports SR Trafikredaktionen.

– The reason is that there are significantly more unprotected road users on our roads, says Staffan Berge Holmbom, statistician at the Swedish Transport Agency to the radio.

There are more motorcycles on the major roads and more bicycles, pedestrians and mopeds in urban environments.

Motorcyclists continue to be affected, according to Staffan Berge Holmbom.

– It is a group that continues to have accidents.

According to statistics from 2003 until today, approximately 40 percent more people die in traffic during the summer compared to the rest of the year.

In 2024, almost 70 percent more people have died in traffic during the summer compared to winter and spring.
