The city of Stockholm is pushing SEK 102 million to the city’s primary schools. The announcement comes after demonstrations by school staff and parents who demanded more money for the school. The Swedish Teachers’ Union stated in March that just over a quarter of a billion is missing in Stockholm’s primary schools to maintain the current level.
“In Stockholm, we have now dug deep into the coffers to be able to allocate another 102 million kroner to our schools,” says finance councilor Karin Wanngård (S) in a press release.
The red-green board also opens the possibility that schools with large student losses will be able to run deficits for several years.
25 of the total 102 million added will be allocated to independent schools, and then also those that make a profit. This is due to the design of the School Act.
