In the lab at Uppsala University, research is being done into the new generation of batteries, batteries that are both safer and more environmentally friendly, batteries that can store more electricity that can be used when the wind is not blowing and the sun is shining.
With the new money, it will be possible to gear research up another notch.
– We will do very valuable research here to understand and develop and this is a contribution to that activity, says Daniel Brandell, who is professor of material chemistry at Uppsala University.
Betting a quarter of a billion
The government also invests around a quarter of a billion a year so that a further 2,500 engineers can be trained at the country’s universities.
– The whole society is crying out for engineers. We need more people who can attend technical training to take the jobs of the future, to be able to develop new technology that solves the climate problems, says Education Minister Mats Persson (L).
– There are a lot of companies waiting for people who can show up and contribute to solving their problems and now the government is making sure to invest the money so that more people can be part of reducing our emissions, says Romina Pourmokhtari (L), Minister of the Environment.
