Sweden is strengthening the humanitarian efforts in the Palestinian territories through new support to Unicef and the UN Food Program (WFP).

“The entire population of Gaza is in urgent need of humanitarian aid, most are already in acute famine, and the worst affected are the children,” says Jakob Wernerman, head of humanitarian aid at the aid agency Sida, according to a press release.

The support to WFP of SEK 13 million will be used to try to get food to people in acute famine. An extended support of SEK 10 million is given to Unicef with a particular focus on families with children’s access to water, food and health care.

Sida’s decision on support applies to a total of approximately SEK 33 million, and more is expected to be sent to Gaza in the near future.
