The number of foreign students at Swedish universities and colleges continues to increase. In total, almost 41,700 incoming students studied at the universities during the academic year 2022/23, statistics from the University Chancellor’s Office show.

This means an increase of five percent compared to the previous academic year, writes the trade union ST’s newspaper Publikt.

The number of exchange students increased by twelve percent, to just over 13,000. There are now slightly more exchange students than in the years before the pandemic.

The number of women arriving is more than the number of men arriving. The percentage of younger students among these students is also increasing.

Within the category that arranged their studies abroad themselves, an increase of two percent is visible compared to the previous school year, to just over 28,700.
