When the police now sum up the half-yearly statistics on the number of explosions in the first six months of the year, there are more (91) than in the whole of last year (90).
Most explosions during the first half of the year have taken place in police region South (34), followed by police region Stockholm (27) and police region West (17). That the South region has the most explosions is a trend that has persisted for several years.
During the first six months of the year, the explosions have been aimed at both cars and business premises. But the main target has been private homes.
The south police area includes Skåne County, Blekinge, Kalmar and Kronoberg.
Conflict in Stockholm
In Stockholm, many of the shootings and explosions are linked to a conflict between the so-called Foxtrot and Dalen networks.
Stockholm stands out in terms of the number of attempted bombings, 30 in the first half of 2023, compared to only 8 in all of 2022.
– If all the attempts had been successful, Stockholm would have had 57 explosions already this year. And was the worst in the class. It may be that the police in Stockholm, with the help of the extra resources they have been given, have been successful in curbing this violence, says Manne Gerell, criminologist at Malmö University.
