More explosions in Sweden than in the whole of last year

During the first six months of the year, 91 blasts have been carried out in Sweden.
There are more than in the whole of last year, recent figures from the police show.
– There is a lot going on in the criminal gangs now. There is a high level of conflict, says Malin Nygren, head of the police’s national bomb data center, to TT.

During last year, a total of 90 explosions took place around Sweden. So far this year, the number is already up to 91, writes TT.

– It is very, very high this year, says Malin Nygren to the news agency.

Most of the explosions are linked to deals between gang criminals. In addition to cars and business premises, the main target has been private residences, a development that the police recognize from recent years.

– It is very worrying and indicates their recklessness. They don’t care about the surroundings, says Nygren.

Region South worst affected

Police region Stockholm stands out in the statistics. There have been 27 explosions during the first six months of the year, compared to last year’s eight.

In terms of numbers, however, most explosions have taken place in the South police region, which is a trend that has persisted for several years, writes TT. So far this year, there have been 34 explosions in the region.

The fact that the explosions are increasing can be due to several things, but much points to the increased level of conflict within the criminal gangs.

– You see it as a success to use explosive devices to get your message across or to be scared, says Malin Nygren.
