The number of patients who choose to block their medical records is increasing sharply. One reason is that they do not want unauthorized persons to be able to access sensitive information and therefore limit access to information in the record.
– It will be a crisis of confidence, says Gunhild Nordesjö Haglund, chief physician at Länssjukhuset in Kalmar, to Swedish Radio Ekot.
Until June this year, there were a total of 99,000 barriers in medical records, which is a sharp increase from 2019, when there were 66,000 barriers.
According to Gunhild Nordesjö Haglund, a block can increase the risk that the patient does not receive the right care because the care staff does not have access to all the information in the medical record.
– It can be a problem, yes. Care is based on a collaboration between care staff and patient to achieve good care and good results, she says.
