More and more media are leaving X: “An extension of Trump’s presidency”

The British daily newspaper The Guardian announced this week that they stop publishing content on platform X, formerly Twitter. The newspaper expresses that the platform has become “toxic” and that the platform’s owner Elon Musk has used it for political purposes.

A little less than a day later, Swedish Dagens Nyheter announced that they too are abandoning X.

– Elon Musk’s political ambitions have merged with Donald Trump’s politics. X is used for this purpose and it is no longer what the platform once was. It could be seen as an extension of Trump’s presidency and it is something else, says the paper’s editor-in-chief Peter Wolodarski.

DN’s X account will remain, but publications will not be published.

– We will not disappear from there, but we will not be active from DN’s side, says Peter Wolodarski.

Media leaving the platform is in itself nothing new. As early as 2023, Sveriges Radio left Twitter at the time, a decision they justified with the fact that the platform had become less important. Aftonbladet also wrote its last twitter post in 2023.
