More and more gang criminals are minors

The number of teenagers and children who are gang criminals in Sweden is increasing, according to information from the Police to Swedish Radio Ekot.

– Nowadays, it is not uncommon for teenagers to lead criminal gangs and exploit younger children for advanced crime, says Martin Wallin, who leads the police’s work against serious organized crime in the local police area Sollentuna in Stockholm to Ekot.

Of the 8,233 people who were singled out as gang criminals at the end of last year, 1,202 are under 18 years of age.

The highest proportion of young gang criminals is in the police region Mitt, where almost a third are under 18 years of age.
