DEATH MOONBIN. Member of the group Astro and star of K-Pop, the young singer Moonbin was found dead on Wednesday April 19, 2023, announced his label at the end of the evening. Suicide seems to be the preferred track, even if the cause of death has not been precisely indicated.
The world of K-Pop is once again struck by very sad news. On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, record label Fantagio revealed that South Korean superstar Moonbin, aged just 25, was found dead around 8:10 p.m. South Korea time at his home in the upscale Gangnam district, in Seoul. It was his manager who made the discovery. He would have quickly contacted the police.
“Astro member Moonbin left our world unexpectedly on April 19, becoming a star in the sky,” his label said on Twitter, which asks everyone to “refrain from speculative reports or malicious rumors, in order May the bereaved family, who are deeply saddened by the sad, sudden news, honor and greet the deceased.” Fantagio Music also specifies that at the request of the singer’s family, “the funeral will be organized as discreetly as possible”.
What caused Moonbin’s death?
At this point, Moonbin’s cause of death has not been officially announced. However, the trail of suicide appears privileged. “It appears that Moonbin took his own life. We are considering a possible autopsy,” said authorities, including K-Gen echoes. This death comes as the world of K-Pop has already lost several of its figures in recent years. In 2019, two other young stars notably breathed their last in the same month. The trail of suicide was also favored at the time.
Born on January 26, 1998 in Cheongju, South Korea, Moonbin had, under the influence of his mother, started his career as a model in 2004, when he was still only a child. Then, he distinguished himself as an actor in the Korean drama Boys over Flowers. Since February 2016, he was part of the boy band Astro, best known for its first single Hide and Seek. His sister, Moon Sua, is also a K-Pop figure. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Billlie.
