On July 29, 1943, the fourteen victims were on a plane bound for Germany to bomb the war industry. It did not get that far, because the two bombers were shot down near Montfoort. “This bomber was attacked by a Messerschmitt, a German night fighter,” says Ad Spruit of the Committee Memorials Montfoort. “Two crew members then jumped out of the plane, but one of them jumped from too low a distance and still did not survive.”
