MontanaBlack says he’s been offered at least $10 million if he leaves Twitch

The streaming platform Kick wants to establish itself as a competitor to the top dog Twitch and throws money around for it. Kick also made a tempting offer to one of the biggest German streamers, Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (35). However, he explains what keeps him on Twitch: He doesn’t want to be the “bad casino guy”.

What’s the offer? Kick was announced in December 2022 as a new and fair streaming platform. Twitch has built an empire on the backs of content creators and is unlikely to support them, streamer Tyler “Trainwreck” Niknam fumed.

“Twitch has lost touch with reality” – Major gambling streamer moves to new competition

Behind Kick, however, is the boss of the discredited online casino Stake, Ed Craven. It is hardly a coincidence that the new streaming platform was launched a few months after Twitch tightened its regulations on showing gambling and banned staking, among other things.

Kick is currently going the way Microsoft did with Mixer and is trying to poach big streamers from Twitch and YouTube. In particular, content creators who are considered not “brand friendly” for the established platforms become the target of Kick.

Now MontanaBlack reports that he too has been made a lucrative offer.

Kick has a problem, MontanaBlack knows

What does MontanaBlack think of Kick? In a May 9th stream, MontanaBlack casually opened up some cases in CS:GO, criticizing gambling – but only in the form of sports betting – and eventually moving on to Kick. At the moment, however, it would not be an option for him to move his stream there.

Kick currently has a problem, according to MontanaBlack: They would be considered a “casino platform”. His image would probably suffer if he changed. The 35-year-old explains that if he went to a supposed casino website, “the media” would pounce on him.

I’m just not in the mood for that. I don’t want to be the scapegoat and the idiot again because I’m streaming on a platform funded by casino funds. […]

All advertising partners would jump off. Why? Because everyone wants to be politically correct and nobody wants to be associated with casino.

According to MontanaBlack, he has tried too hard to stay “flawless” in recent years. He also fears he’s risking his reputation for nothing if Kick goes under. But he also emphasizes that he would not be fundamentally averse to streaming on any other platform, including Kick.

The streamer then revealed that he’s even had talks with Kick and received an offer from the streaming platform.

MontanaBlack stays with Twitch: He’s just too loyal

What was that offer? As MontanaBlack says, the offer for a presumably exclusive streaming contract is said to have amounted to a low double-digit million amount, i.e. at least 10 million – the streamer leaves open whether dollars or euros.

10 million dollars would currently be the equivalent of almost 9.1 million euros (as of May 10th).

Why isn’t MontanaBlack accepting? The streamer gives two reasons why the sum, which would be absolutely life-changing for many of his viewers, is not enough for him:

Half would go to “Father State” anyway – MontanaBlack doesn’t really care about taxes anyway. In addition, there is his loyalty: he has been working with the same business partners for years and has been through thick and thin with them.

So if he ruins his standing with a change, there should be enough in it to give his business partners a third and thus compensate them for the lack of advertising income.

How much would MontanaBlack trade for? He also reveals that it must be “at least double or triple” the previous offer. With 50 million euros, preferably with half in advance, he would not say “no”: at some point everyone is for sale.
