Presumably every trainer in Pokémon GO has already occupied arenas. But very few have been able to defend an arena for as long as a trainer on Reddit.
Why should I occupy arenas? If you occupy a arena in Pokémon GO with one of your Pokémon, you can get the coveted PokéCoins. You can use these to purchase items such as incubators, raid passes or lure modules.
For every 10 minutes that one of your Pokémon defends a gym, you will receive one PokéCoin as soon as your monster flies out of the gym. Since the maximum number of coins possible is 50 coins per day, if you have only placed one Pokémon, you will have to defend a gym for 8 hours and 20 minutes to get the maximum.
A trainer on Reddit has now published a screenshot showing how long his Pokémon has been defending an arena. And that’s a record-breaking time.
One caterpillar against the rest of the world
Which Pokémon is it? The Pokémon that is busy occupying the arena for the trainer is not one of the strongest attackers in Pokémon GO or a top monster with a lot of life points. It is a Hornliu, the small caterpillar from the 1st generation.
How long has the Pokémon been in the arena? However, the fact that the Pokémon with Hornliu is a very weak monster is not what makes it special – it is the time since when the Pokémon has been in the arena.
As can be seen in the trainer’s screenshot, the Pokémon has been in the Gym for an incredible 2,583 days. That’s more than 7 full years, making it one of, if not the, longest-staying Pokémon in the game.
We have included the Reddit post here for you:
What does the trainer say about this? When a commenter asked if the arena is located in a small town, the post’s creator replied that he found the arena while on vacation and it is not near where he lives.
He also states in another comment that the Hornet was placed in the arena a few days after the change in the arena system. If he had placed the Pokémon in the arena before the change, it would have automatically returned to him.
What does the community say about this?
While some of the commentators have advice for the trainer, others just want to use the arena themselves or speculate about the location. There is also some pity for poor Hornliu.
What do you think about it? What is your record for defending a gym? Feel free to share your experiences in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers here. If you want to know what to expect in the game in the near future, take a look at the events in August 2024 in Pokémon GO.
