The Flying Wyvern Rey Dau is the strongest monster you will encounter in the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta. But there are already the first hunters who have defeated the monster in just under 4 minutes: We will explain to you here on MeinMMO which weapons perform best.
Note: The speedrun numbers mentioned in the article are as of November 3, 2024 at 12:46 p.m.
Where can I find these speedruns? The Japanese video game magazine GameWith keeps a leaderboard of the fastest kills on the monster Rey Dau.
Rey Dau is currently considered the toughest opponent in the Monster Hunter Wilds beta and serves as a kind of benchmark for players to test their weapons and their own performance.
The lance disappoints, but the bow is convincing
Which weapon is the best? The heavy bowgun is in first place for the Rey Dau with a hunting time of 3:53 minutes. This is followed by the rifle lance (3:56 minutes) and the sword and shield (4:15 minutes). The lance, the light bowgun and the double swords perform the worst.
However, GameWith’s list has one major shortcoming: it does not distinguish whether the monster was damaged by falling rocks. A strong strategy against the Rey Dau is to use destructible rocks in the area. This of course distorts the pure performance of the weapon.
There is a Google Sheet circulating in the community that also collects speedruns. This differentiates between “Freestyle Runs” and “Rock Spam Runs”. This makes it easier to classify the results.
In freestyle, the energy blade (4:19 min), the bow (4:28 min) and the long sword (4:37 min) particularly shine. The last three places are occupied by the light and heavy bowguns and the lance. Some players are particularly disappointed by the poor performance of the lance, which is weak in both rankings. You write under a post on Reddit:
There is particular praise from the players for the new bow. With homing arrows and a large hail of arrows, it feels significantly more powerful than in Monster Hunter: World. The good ranking of the bow in the speedrun comparison supports this feeling.
