Monster Hunter is probably to blame for players not getting a new part of a cult series from Capcom

Capcom has had a really good run in recent years. Many of their well-known brands have been successfully revived. Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter are doing well. But fans also want a cult series back. But a legendary developer doesn’t think the time is right for that.

Which developer are you talking about? Fans of Capcom are familiar with Shinji Mikami. The Japanese developer worked for Capcom at the beginning of his career and is the forefather of the Resident Evil series. He was involved in the series up until part 4. In 2004, however, he left Capcom and worked on his own projects, such as The Evil Within and Vanquish.

He was also responsible for other series that are well-known among fans of the genre. One of them is Dino Crisis. The game can be compared to the classic Resident Evil games, only there are no zombies, but dinosaurs.

After the successful remakes of the zombie series, genre fans also want Dino Crisis back. However, Mikami reveals in an interview that the time is simply not right for it, especially because of Monster Hunter.

If you fancy Resident Evil, there is currently a cheap bundle for you: A zombie series is an annual tradition for me – over 120 hours of gameplay is currently available for 30 €

Monster Hunter probably has enough dinosaurs

What does Shinji Mikami say about Dino Crisis? Eurogamer also talked about Dino Crisis at gamescom and its new remaster of the game Shadows of the Damned. In the interview, Mikami is surprised that people want more about Dino Crisis. But he doesn’t think it’s a good idea to revive the series.

He thinks that the most exciting things with dinosaurs have already been done, namely by Monster Hunter. Mikami simply doesn’t believe that there are currently any new ideas for the series.

So even if I decided to do a remake or a new version of Dino Crisis, I don’t feel like there’s much room for that kind of game right now, precisely because Monster Hunter has become such a big game. But yeah, it’s surprising.

There was a ray of hope for Dino Crisis fans in 2023 in the form of Exoprimal. But even Mikami thinks that the concepts of the two games are very different. The last part of the series was released exclusively on the first Xbox in 2003.

Fans of Dino Crisis will apparently have to be patient. Unlike Onimusha, another horror series from Capcom, there is currently no modern way to play the classic dino games. Fans would at least be happy to see ports of the old games on modern platforms. If you’re up for a lot of action with dinos, you might still like Exoprimal: New co-op shooter with angry dinos is my surprise of the year, but it has a big catch
