Mondriaan was born on March 7, 1872 on the Kortegacht in Amersfoort. In addition to being a head teacher, his father was also an art teacher and taught him to draw at an early age.
Mondriaan was one of the members of the influential art movement De Stijl. His best-known works are those with black lines and white, blue, red and yellow areas. The birthplace on the Kortegacht in Amersfoort is now a museum, the Mondriaan House.
