Monday, July 3, 2023 was the hottest day on record worldwide. This is shown by figures from the US Center for Environmental Prediction NCEP.

The average temperature was measured at 17.01 degrees Celsius. The previous record of 16.92 degrees was set in August 2016, writes The Guardian.

The southern United States has been plagued by extreme heat in recent weeks and in parts of China a heat wave with temperatures of over 35 degrees has taken hold. In North Africa, readings of over 50 degrees Celsius have been reported. Even in Antarctica, where it is currently winter, unusually high temperatures have been measured.
