Mona Brorsson’s honest words about life after her biathlon career – beautiful message about what she wants to do now: “I want to give back”

In a week, Sweden’s biathlon stars begin their pre-season.
For the first time in a long time without Mona Brorsson.
– All doors and windows are wide open, says Brorsson to Sveriges Radio.

Mona Brorsson made her debut in the World Cup in 2015, and after that she was a given part of the Swedish national biathlon team. When she joined the national team, Sweden was far from being a great nation, with few skaters who could threaten the world top on the women’s side. But that would soon change.

First pre-season without Mona

Stars like Elvira and Hanna Öberg had big breakthroughs, and now Sweden is one of the great nations in the sport. And Mona Brorsson has been an important part of that, with her experience. Mona Brorsson has been praised for what a role model she has been for everyone in the national biathlon team, and when she said goodbye to biathlon earlier in the year, many in the sport were in tears.

Mona Brorsson has meant an enormous amount to the national team, and has always been a reliable teammate and always performed well in relays, where there have been Olympic gold, Olympic silver and World Cup silver – as well as 17 podium places in the World Cup. Individually, during her very last season, she did perhaps the best of her career, with a whopping 700,000 kroner earned, and her second individual podium in her career as the main highlight.

Next week, the national biathlon team begins its preseason, and for the first time in many years, Mona Brorsson has nothing to bet against. She has now finished her career, and still hasn’t decided what happens next.

She wants to do that now

However, Mona Brorsson only looks positively at all the opportunities that now await her in the future.

– Now it’s like starting a new chapter, now all doors and windows are wide open. That’s probably also one of the reasons why I didn’t want to throw myself into anything new. I want to keep the doors open for a little while longer, and see what I really want to do, she tells Sveriges Radio.

Mona Brorsson also says that she now wants to do something that means a lot to her, and that she has already sent in applications for a possible new job.

– I have followed my dream all my life until now. Then I want the next step to also be significant in some way. I actually sent in applications to the Red Cross today to become a volunteer, so we’ll see what happens, says Brorsson, and continues:

– But I want to do something meaningful, and something where I can give back to society. At least I think so, that it’s something I can occupy myself with this summer, then we’ll see where it goes.
